About
Politeia is a student-led initiative at York University, dedicated to empowering women and gender-diverse students who are passionate about pursuing careers in politicthe voices of underrepresented individuals. Our mission is to build a strong, tight-knit, supportive community where students can grow as leaders, access mentorship, and challenge the systemic barriers often encountered in political spaces, especially those shaped by gender.
Rooted in the vibrant academic environment of York University's Political Science and Global Political Studies programs, Politeia serves as a bridge between these disciplines, bringing students together to share ideas, experiences, and a mutual passion for politics. We believe in learning collaboratively, supporting one another, and amplifying underrepresented voices in political spheres.
Power begins with belonging.
At Politeia, we grow together, lead together, and create space for change.
Our Mission
Politeia at York University uplifts women and gender-diverse students by cultivating an inclusive space for leadership, learning, and advocacy in political science. We focus on building community through mentorship, connection, and academic engagement, working to break down systemic barriers and encourage active participation in political dialogue, research, and change.

Our Vision
A key part of Politeia’s vision is to highlight and engage with the academic strengths of the Political Science and Global Political Studies programs at York University. We aim to spotlight the diverse expertise within these disciplines, foster collaboration between students and faculty, and create opportunities for academic enrichment both inside and outside the classroom. By bridging the gap between these programs, we strive to cultivate a stronger, more connected political community where students can explore critical issues, sharpen their skills, and pursue meaningful pathways in political scholarship and practice.
